Downtown Improvement Board Executive Director Walker Wilson brought us the latest news about Downtown Pensacola--Palafox Market growth, plans for a Foo Foo Festival art installation in November, projected start for South Palafox beautification construction--and answered questions about (no surprise!) downtown parking.

In celebration of National Bubba Day, member Bubba Peters got a standing ovation (well, we were already standing for the pledge)!

When Tracey Saxon, who manages and administers Warrington Preparatory Academy for Charter Schools USA, asked the students at Warringtons middle school what they most wanted at the school, the surprising reply was an oven. 100% of the scholars, as the students are called, at what is now Warrington Preparatory Academy receive free lunches. The food they used to get was barely edible; now they have properly cooked meals and all the fresh fruit and vegetables they want.

That is just one of the improvements that our speaker noted as she talked about the success-in-progress turnaround at what was a badly failing school. We are relentlessly committed to student greatness in school and life. We strive to unleash each student’s potential by building strong minds and good hearts ensuring they develop lifelong future-ready skills that will lead them to success as they pursue their dreams and aspirations. The story of Operation Helo--the subject of our program yesterday--cant be summed up in a sentence or two. Here is a link to a short documentary video of what caring, compassionate, and competent Americans did to rescue disaster victims and save lives: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lMMYneqVms&t=28s . Many thanks to speakers Matt McSwain and Harry ONan for their stirring account of this phenomenal effort by 150+ volunteer pilots flying over 4,000 missions in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
